Ordering the right ring size the first time saves you time and keeps your ring comfortable. Here are three easy ways to find your US ring size at home, plus a size chart and tips for getting it right.
Method 1: Measure a ring you already own
- Pick a ring that fits the finger you are shopping for.
- Lay it flat on a ruler and measure the inside diameter, from inner edge to inner edge, in millimeters.
- Find the closest diameter in the chart below.
This is the most reliable at-home method.
Method 2: Use string or a strip of paper
- Wrap a thin strip of paper or non-stretchy string around the base of your finger.
- Mark where the end overlaps. It should be snug but still slide over your knuckle.
- Lay it flat and measure the length in millimeters. That is your circumference.
- Find the closest circumference in the chart below.
Method 3: Visit a local jeweler
Any jeweler can size your finger in a minute, usually for free. This is the best option if you are between sizes.

Tips for an accurate size
- Measure at the end of the day. Fingers are slightly larger in the evening and when warm.
- Measure more than once. Take three readings and use the average.
- Wide bands fit tighter. For bands wider than about 6mm, many people go up a half size.
- Between sizes? Choose the larger size, especially if your knuckles are larger than the base of your finger.
- Buying a surprise ring? Borrow a ring they wear on the same finger and measure its inside diameter.
